Whether a main entrance door, a patio door, or an interior passage door, a custom wood door can add so much to your home. I have been building custom doors for about 15 years now. My art glass panels are, of course, a perfect compliment to them, leading to one-of-a-kind complete works of practical art for anyone’s home.
Overall, the process is a fairly straightforward path that will lead you to a custom-made product designed completely around your needs. Some of those needs could be:
Privacy - Glass areas can be large, small, or deleted and can incorporate stained glass
Proportions- Since it is a custom door, it can be made to exactly what you have now, or can be designed into basically unlimited sizes of door, sidelights and transom. A complete array of configurations will be presented for you to consider. For instance, you may wish to eliminate a transom, and have a much taller door. The choices are endless.
Finish - Custom made doors are wood, which can then be either painted or stained/sealed. This can influence your choice of wood species. Painted doors can often be made more affordable by using less-expensive wood options. A natural wood door has character all its own.
Style - A custom door can also be made to reflect your individual tastes. Everything from stile and rail placement, moldings and hardware can all serve to express your decor.
Function - most importantly, the door must seal out the weather and safely operate as intended for its lifetime.
Generally, the process begins with a series of designs based on your needs. I will draw out designs for both the door, and any leaded glass panels. I like to offer my clients at least three different ideas to choose from, but since design is the most important part of the process, I offer unlimited revisions. Full-color designs are posted on a private web page which you may access. After choosing a design, the project enters production, which can take anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on complexity. Any leaded glass panels for exterior doors are usually accompanied by tempered, insulated units, to seal out weather. These glass units have a lead time of about 4 weeks to make. I consider them necessary unless you are in a warm zone, or the door leads to a separate vestibule room.
Pricing of the door is a wide scope, and with some more information, I can give you a price quote based on your particular project.
Create your own completely one-of-a-kind door, and make a truly unique statement for your home.
